skydivers voluntarily quitting the sport?
BobFolline replied to aguila's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
After 38 years in the sport I get tired of DZ politics and having to drive 90 minutes to make a few jumps. But I still love flying my wingsuit in a good tight formation. So I have been off most of this sat year while my wife recovers from a knee replacement and a new business gets launched. But I will be jumping again soon as it warms up a bit. As for hanging it up all together ... Would have to be something more interesting and another air sport. Working to be the last flyer on a birdman suit. ;-) ... Who also flies a tony suit. -
Was a time about 1980m that if the first load left the ground before 8:00 it was half price. And we jumped from "Bricks Beech" or "Our Douglas" Trips to Castarison sky ranch and water jumps in Isabella. I jumped there from 1980 until about 1988. Was a good fun bunch. Why is it closing the doors? Is it now the only DZ in Cal city? Bob Working to be the last flyer on a birdman suit. ;-) ... Who also flies a tony suit.

Altitrack, Wingsuits and 64 bit Windows 7
BobFolline replied to KrisFlyZ's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Hope this fix works for virtual machines as well. When Apple went 64 bit the windows XP VM on my MAC stopped being reliable for Alti-track uploads and often locked up. After a couple MAC OS updates Alti-track communicator quite working altogether. So I too have moved to a windows 7 VM and am just sending an email to L & B to get the 64 bit hardware. Thank you again for making this a great source for info. Working to be the last flyer on a birdman suit. ;-) ... Who also flies a tony suit. -
I still fly my Skyflyer S6 and it is fine for flocking and anything except ultra slow forward and vertical at the same time. New suits have more range bit the S6 and the S3 do fine at real flock speeds. Working to be the last flyer on a birdman suit. ;-) ... Who also flies a tony suit.

Forever is a very long time. I don't give up easily and I plan to get wingsuit flying open again at Snohomish. Just not likely to happen this month. We will continue to work with DZO to find a compromise that both WS and DZO can be comfortable with. Much progress was made before the July determination. No there have not been any wingsuit incidents at Snohomish. A few flyby and some landing conflicts with tandems were the big issues and those we only a couple people. I am the primary person coordinating the Snohomish procedure from the WS community side, with a great deal of help from the local and national WS community. This included coordinating with established procedures and procedures in progress from Elsinore, USPA, Flock U, etc. We have a large base of very experienced wingsuit pilots that also jump at Skydive Kapowsin (Shelton, WA). A DZ known for great attitude and plenty of room. The procedure was well received and offered plenty of clarity and good safe practices. The issue is primarily one of DZ focus and priorities. There is still a chance we will be able to arrange special events or days during the week when wingsuit operations will be allowed. NO GUARANTEES. Major issue is the DZ has a 2 mile operational limit and until that is changed we have to land at the east field. This has potential conflicts with airport that DZO is not comfortable with. It's his DZ so he gets to make the rules. However he is willing to try to have bounds expanded enough to allow long flights and landing at airport. This MAY make him comfortable enough to change things when and if DZ area can be changes. Meanwhile we have been working on this since March of this year so we are taking a break and have some fun before working on it again. If you want to see or comment on the procedure just let me know. I hope the wing suit ban is cleared up soon enough for my fall trip. In the meantime I look forward to landings at the ranch. See you soon. Working to be the last flyer on a birdman suit. ;-) ... Who also flies a tony suit.

Herbert John Eskelson - "Binky"

I am considering setting up a memorial event for Herb in Hawaii. Of course for me it would be a wingsuit meet but in his memory. Have to see if I can drum up some interest. Bob Working to be the last flyer on a birdman suit. ;-) ... Who also flies a tony suit. -
Unlike what some people attributed to me at the board meeting, my objection is that the I don't believe this should be an instructor rating since you are assisting licensed jumpers. This sounds much more like a coach rating than an instructor rating. Second I wanted a comment period before this was pushed through by the BOD. We are handling that with this review period so I am happy. On the negative side there are many people out there, with wingsuit instructor ratings and without, who are not really qualified to be instructing. They know how to fly but don't know how to teach. And if they don't follow a syllabus they will sometime forget things and the student could go up unprepared. People will still make mistakes but we need to assure we do this right and not just do it. I applaud all of your efforts in this regard. Bob Working to be the last flyer on a birdman suit. ;-) ... Who also flies a tony suit.

I will really miss Herb. I just jumpted with him in Hawaii in May of this year. I remember he had 2 kids at home too that were due to spend time with their dad. How sad. Bob Working to be the last flyer on a birdman suit. ;-) ... Who also flies a tony suit. -
Douglas, Glad to hear you are on the mend. Better heal quick before we all come over for your Boogie. Sure don't want you to miss out on all the action. But at this point it probably feells good just to be in the action. I will keep great thoughts for you to have a full recovery and enhanced bionics after all this. Great job at keeping your spirits up. I'm sure it is nowhere near as much fun as you make it sound. ============ Now post the pics!!! ============ Bob Working to be the last flyer on a birdman suit. ;-) ... Who also flies a tony suit.

See you there. Hopefully we can get some air time before then. Just one sunny weekend that is all I ask. Bob Working to be the last flyer on a birdman suit. ;-) ... Who also flies a tony suit.

Congratulations guys on completing the formation. I rode right seat in the Otter with Jim for the first 2 jumps on Wednesday. What a great place to view from. We just kept orbiting above the formation as it was building. All the while descending the Otter at better than 4000 fpm. We broke off the orbit as the formation broke and descended at the far end of the lake. We were at the ramp in the Otter before the formation had all landed. I can't think of a better viewing platform unless you were high camera. Again congratulations guys and have fun in Eloy. Working to be the last flyer on a birdman suit. ;-) ... I use TAS and slow mode and it has been excellent in capturing the entire dive. Working to be the last flyer on a birdman suit. ;-) ... Who also flies a tony suit.

Avery the teaser was great but we really need to see the completed formation. PLEASE! And did you get the double 9 ways? Thank you for everything this trip and I look forward to flying with you again soon. Bob Working to be the last flyer on a birdman suit. ;-) ... Who also flies a tony suit.

I am surprised he did not just ask one of us to get him in the air. Huck I usually have my GTI and a rig you could get started with when he is ready. I'm sure Scott and I can get him in the air. We can sure use some new Wingsuiters who actually jump. But then we would need some good dry air to jump in too. ;-) Bob Working to be the last flyer on a birdman suit. ;-) ... Nice Scott. Thank you for organizing at this event. Bob Working to be the last flyer on a birdman suit. ;-) ... Who also flies a tony suit.

Such an "Extreme Athlete" seems to be easily passed and flown around by the camera person. Where is the mention of the awsome camera person whou outflies and outdistances this "extreme athlete" Working to be the last flyer on a birdman suit. ;-) ... Who also flies a tony suit.

Thank you all for a great weekend. The distance competition was fun and I really did not expect to get most of the way to the tracks. But the folks ahead of me were just awesome! And they did not have the advantage of leaving late and watching down the line at what was and was not working. ------ I loved being part of the 2 completed Slot Perfect 16 ways and the 2 double 9 ways. You guys can really fly those suits. --- Thank you all for being there and for the great pointers that helped it all come together. Thank you again Ed for hosting the event and all the organizing. This was the best event so far. Thank you Kris for taking such good care of us and keeping us full of good food. And a special thank you to Avery for the great videos and taking care of us on Saturday Dinner. You are tops Avery. Bob Working to be the last flyer on a birdman suit. ;-) ... I still like the going first from inside the plane and cleanly going around the outside flyer on the first exit Scott C. Yes there was some fun flying for sure. Wish we had video on the last jump chasing the balloon and passing monkey. As for the chance of flying tomorrow. Well it got deleted. Hope to see you next time. Yes Bob took a few jumps to get back into the flying. Then went back to the NorthWET and been rained out ever since. Sorry bout that! But I made up for it later. ;-) Working to be the last flyer on a birdman suit. ;-) ... Who also flies a tony suit.

Get a qualified instructor or waste you money. Back in the Stone Ages Dave and I made an apointment at a Norther Ca DZ to fly wingsuits and get instruction from a well know instructor. The instructor left the DZ before we got there and the DZ swapped instructors for someone else who was "well qualified". The ground instruction was brief but seemed OK. The flight was a different thing entirely. The Instructor could not stay up with us on the jump so the video was not of great use on all but 2 of the jumps. Basically the debriefings were a waste of time. Turned out the "well qualified instructor" actually had less than a dozen wingsuit jumps and so I looked up the origional instructor and booked another complete course. Ed's instruction was much more inclusive and we uncovered a couple DANGEROUS things the unqualified instructor had told us. Thanks again Ed for all the good instruction.
